WERC Environmental Design Competition

Meet this year’s WERC team!

The WERC Environmental Design Contest, organized by New Mexico State University, is a design competition that encourages collaboration among industry, government, and academics to address real-world challenges. Annually, industry professionals define a series of open-ended tasks, challenging students to design innovative solutions to bring to the competition.

So far, this year’s team has picked their task: Task 2. Power Plant in the Desert: Recovering Water from Cooling Towers. They have also picked the power plant they are going to base the model on and location: the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Station in Tonopah, AZ. This design will aim to accomplish the perfect design for the task statement, which will effectively recover water vapor in cooling towers, and hopefully win the 2026 WERC Environmental Design Competition.
