Meet this year’s WERC team!
The WERC Environmental Design Contest, organized by New Mexico State University, is a design competition that encourages the collaboration among industry, government, and academics to address real-world challenges. Annually, industry professionals define a series of open-ended tasks, challenging students to design innovative solutions to bring to competition.
The WERC team focused on removing metals from mining influenced waters using fungi. The team researched Oyster mushrooms and working on creating a system to take out these metals through a bioreactor.
Team Results
The MTU WERC-Task 3 Team took 1st place overall. They also placed 2nd in the Bench Scale subcategory.
